The Charles R. Hale Collection of headstone inscriptions for Winsted and Winchester is included in the G&LHR’s Notebook Collection, and it has also been digitized. The ”Bridgeport Working: Voices from the Twentieth Century” was the concept of former BHC Department Head, Mary K. Witkowski. As Director of the History Center, Witkowski understood the important role that labor has played in Bridgeport’s history. Witkowski wanted to create a website that would provide researchers with valuable information on the City’s varied economy and the diverse group of citizens who have driven it. The Local History Room collection includes histories of New Britain, histories of other Connecticut cities/towns, manufacturers’ catalogs, general genealogical sources, genealogies, city directories (1870-1992), church histories, federal census on microfilm for Hartford County (1790-1930), collective biographies, maps, municipal records, newsletters from local organizations and over 9,000 photographs and slides. The vertical files contain over 75,000 clippings from area newspapers and are arranged by subject. The clippings date from the mid-1800’s to the present. Articles may be photocopied.
